Canadians fight against drunk driving

During the recent MADD Canada National Conference, a number of officials and volunteers were honoured for their involvement in the crusade against impaired driving, which is a particular problem during long weekends such as the recent Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Among those honoured were Chaouki Hamka from MADD Windsor, Barb Holwell of the Trinity Bay Chapter of MADD Newfoundland and Labrador, and Constable Dave Ashfield of the Durham Regional Police Service.

“These individuals and thousands of other volunteers across the country dedicate their time and expertise to help make our communities safer,” said Denise Dubyk, president of MADD Canada. “We are truly thankful for, and inspired by, the contributions they have made to addressing the problem of impaired driving and supporting those affected by this violent and senseless crime.”

According to MADD Canada statistics, around 190 people are injured every day in car accidents related to impaired driving, often resulting in car insurance claims.
