Survey reveals how Canadians are saving on gas

With high gas prices showing no sign of letting up, driving to work is taking a financial toll on Canadians. To alleviate some of the pain at the pump, drivers are resorting to fuel-saving tricks they've learned over the years. Autos.ca – an automotive information website – took a poll of motorists to find out the most popular fuel-saving techniques.

At 63 percent, the majority of those polled said they're saving gas by trying to drive more smoothly instead of accelerating rapidly and stopping abruptly. People are also moderating their speed to save on gas.

The survey also found that people are changing their routines to make their fuel dollar go further. Some said they aren't travelling as far to entertainment venues, while others – particularly Ontarians – are trading in their current vehicle for a hybrid model.

Higher prices at the pump may lead many drivers to look for ways to save on their auto insurance. By shopping around, consumers may find a better rate without compromising on coverage.
