Fuel analyst says Canadian motorists will take to the roads less this summer

Even though car sales are up in Canada, a fuel analyst says that the high cost of gas will lead to fewer people taking to the roads this summer.

In an interview with television news station CTV, Roger McKnight, a petroleum industry expert, says Canadians have reached their breaking point and will likely cut back on their gas consumption heading into the busy summer travelling season.

According to GasBuddy.com, only one province, Quebec, has seen a drop in fuel prices over the past week, but according to McKnight, there's no indication of this being a trend. McKnight told the station that in nine of the past ten years, gasoline prices have "crept up" between now and the end of April.

The rising cost of gas may help explain why most Canadian carmakers saw more fuel-efficient cars being sold last month. Auto insurance policies occasionally offer discounts/savings for people driving these kinds of vehicles. Consumers who own a hybrid vehicle should consult with their insurance company to see if there are any savings to be had.
