Top 10 future vehicles for fuel efficiency
With gas prices rising and no sign that they'll let up any time soon, consumers are putting a renewed emphasis on fuel-efficiency when considering what car to buy.
With this in mind, the Toronto Star has a listing of 10 vehicles that car makers will be releasing within the next year or two.
Compiled by John LeBlanc in a special for the paper, the top 10 "fuel sippers" for 2012 include the Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio, Honda Civic, Hyundai Accent, Nissan Versa, Scion iQ, and two models from Toyota, the Prius V and Yaris. His top performing models are the Chevrolet Spark and GMC Granite.
In the U.S., LeBlanc notes that cars getting at least 40 mpg - or 100 kilometers for ever 5.8 litres burned - are considered to be the fuel-efficiency standard. LeBlanc says Honda's Civic and Hybrid will comes closest to meeting or beating that benchmark.
The other vehicles LeBlanc recommends get 100 kilometers for every 3 to 4.7 liters burned.
Due to the prevalence of auto insurance fraud, premiums are rising for many motorists. While electric cars may be more costly than standard vehicles, the money saved on gas will likely pay off in the long run.
