Auto executive urges Canadians to be 'idle-free'

The soon-to-be chairman of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association is appealing to motorists' concern for their kids to push his "idle-free" policy.

Al MacPhee recently launched a nationwide campaign urging drivers to turn their engines off for the sake of the environment and the air quality of their children. The campaign is called ”Let's Go IDLE-FREE for Our Kids.”

MacPhee said he hopes all Canadians will make a habit out of turning their engines off when they don't need to be running.

"We can play a huge leadership role by inspiring one small habit," said MacPhee. "When you're parked and it makes sense – turn the engine off. Together, we can save at least one billion dollars at the pump, hundreds of thousands of tons of emissions, and help lead to clear the air in cities across Canada."

Environment Canada recognizes fuel-efficient vehicles as one of the best ways drivers can reduce their carbon footprint and save money at the same time. On its website, the organization lists what factors consumers should consider before buying a gas-sipping model. Once you have selected the right vehicle for you, it’s always good to get a quote to see if you can also save on your car insurance.
