Answers

  1. In Quebec, you have to fill out an accident report in the event of an accident.

False. If you don’t have an accident form on hand, you need to exchange the following information: name, address, phone number, vehicle registration, driver’s license number, and insurance policy number.

  2. One in two children (51.3%) is unsafe in a car due to improper child seat use.

True. To find out whether your child is properly buckled in and you’re using the right child seat, go to the SAAQ website and consult the Secure Them for Life brochure, which describes all the steps for keeping your child safe at every age.

  3. You should plan to replace your tires once the tread depth reaches 25/32 in. or less.

False. At 25/32 in., your tires are still good! You need to change them once the tread depth is 6/32 in. or less. Ask a mechanic to measure the tread depth of your tires.

  4. If you see a pothole, you should drive around it.

False. Stick to your regular route and, above all, avoid zigzagging between potholes. To protect your car, slow down when you see a pothole. The harder you hit it, the more damage you could do to your car.

  5. Aggressive driving (hard braking, accelerating, cornering, etc.) will cost you more on gas.

True. Not only is aggressive driving dangerous, it will also cost you more in fuel and maintenance over in the long run.
