First-time homebuyers may wonder whether they have really found the right house to live in. To help reassure your decision, here are some signs you have found the home of your dreams.
1. You Feel Happy
After seeing the home, you feel a sense of euphoria and excitement. Just thinking about moving into this perfect dream home has you feeling like you’re on cloud nine. You can’t wait to show it off to family and friends! Feeling generally happy about a house is an encouraging sign. It means you are looking forward to a fresh start and settling into your new home.
2. Checks off Everything on Your List
If your dream home checks most of the boxes off your house hunting checklist and meets the majority of your own personal criteria, then that’s a good sign! You may have to make a few compromises here and there, but as long it checks off most must-haves on your list then it’s ideally a good fit for you. Make sure you and your significant other are on the same page for must-have home requirements.
3. Budget
If you find a house you really like and it’s within your budget, that’s another reassuring sign you have found the right home. If a home you are interested in purchasing is over budget it may not be right as some homeowners can experience buyer’s remorse. Sometimes with looking for a house, people can get caught up in the rush and excitement that they forget about additional costs such as hydro, home insurance, property tax, closing costs, renovations and maintenance. Buying a home is a valuable investment that requires financial planning and considerable saving. When house hunting, choose a realistic budget that works best for your lifestyle and shop within your means.
4. You Don’t Want to See Other Homes
You know it’s right when after seeing “the one”, you don’t want to look at any other homes. Searching for another potential home isn’t as appealing and you may feel other houses might not measure up to the greatness and charm of your dream home. Even past homes you have looked at may pale in comparison.
5. Location
As the popular house-hunting mantra states, “location, location, location” is an important factor to consider when purchasing a home. It’s important to like the future neighbourhood you could be living in and consider things such as your commute to work, traffic, access to grocery stores, banks, schools and public transportation. If the location isn’t to your liking, chances are you may not be entirely happy in your new residence. If you have time, you can also explore the neighbourhood during the weekend to get a better feel for it.
6. Decorating Ideas
A good sign you’ve found your dream home is when you start decorating it in your head and have plenty of ideas for painting walls and furniture arrangements in each of the rooms. Envisioning yourself living in the space is essential and comforting. Get that imagination running!
7. Foreseeable Future
Similar to mentally decorating the place, if you find yourself picturing your future in the home then that’s a positive sign. If you see yourself in that home for another five years, that’s also a good sign. In the event of any major life changes such as marriage or having children, make sure your new home is compatible for the desired timeframe.
8. Follow your Intuition
If you have a strong gut feeling, it’s a good idea to follow and listen to it. Your intuition can be a powerful tool for making decisions. If you enter a home and develop a good gut feeling, it’s a strong sign this home was meant for you. Trust your intuition.
