If you are like most people, you might find that there are too many things to get done the in the day. With work commitments, family commitments and hobbies, no wonder people feel crunched for time. However, time management is a skill that can be easily learned.
Here are some great time management tips:
- Acknowledge that time is not at your disposal: Time doesn’t stand still. You have to make sure that you prioritize your tasks in the time that you have.
- Identify your goals: It’s important to outline what the goals of each day are. Making a to-do list might help you to identify what is important and the amount of time that each one might take. This will help organize your time.
- Make a time-managed plan: With your to-do list, have a set time allotted for each task. When the time is up for that task, then move on to the next one. This will help to organize your time (and also help for you to see how long your tasks will take when organizing the next to do list).
- Delegate: If the tasks are too many or too time consuming, try to delegate the tasks in order to get as much done as possible.
- Make a routine: Take the first 30 minutes of every day to plan your day. A routine lifestyle is the key to time management.
- Schedule time for interruptions:/ Interruptions happen. They are a part of life. Plan for these interruptions and you will see that you have not wasted that time.
- Focus: When you set time aside to do something, make sure that you are distraction free (such as the TV, media, or the internet). This will help you keep your focus.
- Track your time: Pay attention to where you may waste your time. Perhaps you may want to write down your daily activities to see where and how you spend the majority of your time. Once you have this, then figuring out how to cut back on time wasters will help.
In order for you to be successful with time management, you will need to practice and follow a routine. Having clearly laid out goals, priorities and tasks will help you spend quality time on the tasks that matter.
Remember, you are not trying to change time, or increase the amount of time in a given day. Time management is more about changing behaviors to reach a desired goal.
So, now think, which of the above tips can be applied to you, and how can you make better use of your precious time?
